Saints Galore!
Saints We Celebrate in March
As the Church journeys through the Season of Lent, we pause to commemorate special Saitns of the Church. Here are just a few:
March 3rd - St. Katherine Drexel
A native of Philadelphia, St. Katherine was the first native born citizen to be canonized. She was an American heiress who spent her fortune helping the native American and black American people. She started the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for this purpose.
March 17th - St. Patrick
The patron Saint of Ireland though born in England. He brought Christianity to parts of Ireland and is said to have used the shamrock to teach the mystery of the Trinity.
March 19th - St. Joseph
Husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus. He is one of the few Saints with two feast days: March 19 and May 1 when we celebrate the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. Because March 19th faills on a Sunday this year, the Church will celebrate on March 20th.
March 25th - The Annunciation
The feast commemorating when the Angel Gabriel brought the Good News to Mary that God had chosen her her to be His Son's mother. All creation held their breath for Mary's response.
