A Message from the Director
Not an Ending ~ A Continuation
I think you will agree with me and the Catechists that this year flew by. It was a good year with the children coming to class and leaving class with a smile on their faces. We pray that each one of them grew in their knowledge AND love and Jesus and allowed the lessons they studied to soak into their hearts. Then it should be relatively easy to let it flow through their fingers in works of mercy and service.
Summer time offers ideal time to let the lessons learned "simmer" and take root in our lives, not get lost in the activities of free time. As a family, make it a daily practice to pray together - at meals, in the car, before bedtime. Stay close to God and use the Catholic family prayers the children learned this year. It doesn't have to be long and formal. Just keep in touch with the God who loved us so much he sent us His only Son to die for us.
You may have noticed that often there are no altar servers to assist the priest at weekend Masses. Can we change that? Please consider urging your children, grade 3 and older, to become an altar server for weekend Masses. There will be instructions to teach them how to serve and it is guaranteed those who serve at the altar will receive even more from their weekly participation than when they simply "attend" Mass. The ministry is also open to adults - how about you?
MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED MAKE THIS A SOLID YEAR OF FORMATION IN THE FAITH AT ST. DAMIEN PARISH:
- Catechists - who truly loved being with your children and sharing their faith.
- Prayer Sponsors - who supported each class with their prayers and many times with their seasonal treats.
- Hall Monitors - who were here weekly to welcome our students, help the catechists, or wherever there were needed.
- Drivers - who provided rides for families who needed transportation to and from class.
